‘IMBA’ a short but simply sweet way to describe the seminars that took place in the Seminar room of Mapua Institute of Technology on October 14, 2011. The speakers, thecreativedork and aseo (each infamous in the field of Illustration) shared their knowledge, experiences and advice on how to become successful in their line of work. They presented artworks from previous projects, blatantly exhibiting their undeniable passion in their crafts as well as their remarkable talents, that made people mark them as geniuses or in simplicity, IMBA. The seminar lasted for over an hour and a half but it was anything but boring; their humourous and witty remarks, kept the audience captivated and attentive to their words. They tackled many issues regarding Illustration, but the wise words of Sir Aseo were imprinted in my mind: “Just because you know how to Vector an image, it is automatically Vector art. You have to incorporate a piece of yourself, your style into it, for me that’s when you call it art, Vector Art.” These words truly reflects his respect towards his craft, which inevitably echoes in his work. I think I speak for everyone when I say that it was an eye-opening experience; I never once thought that a 30 pesos seminar will rouse me to leave the room “flowing with inspiration” and see art in a different light.
